Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Mission

For the Our Lady of Guadalupe Tagakaulo Mission, the Blessed Virgin Mary is our Mother, our companion in mission, and a constant reminder that the Gospel is proclaimed most authentically through humility, encounter, and love.
Her message at Tepeyac continues to inspire the way we walk with the Tagakaulo people: with respect for every person, reverence for every culture, and unwavering confidence in God's loving providence.

A Mother Who Walks with Her People
When the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego in 1531, she chose to reveal herself to a humble Indigenous man. She spoke in his own language, embraced the symbols of his culture, and revealed God's love in a way that his people could understand.
For the Church, the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe became a profound witness that the Gospel does not erase culture—it fulfills and elevates it.
This is why she is the patroness of our mission.
Like Mary, we are called to meet people where they are, to honor their dignity, to listen with humility, and to proclaim Christ in ways that respect the unique gifts of every community.
Her example continues to shape the way we accompany the Tagakaulo people today.
The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe contains symbols that the Indigenous peoples of Mexico immediately recognized and understood. Her appearance became one of the Church's most powerful examples of evangelization through inculturation—proclaiming the Gospel while honoring the culture and dignity of a people.

The celebration brings together clergy, missionaries, families, benefactors, volunteers, and the Tagakaulo communities in joyful thanksgiving. Through the Eucharist, processions, prayer, and fellowship, we renew our commitment to continue Christ's mission under Mary's loving care.
